What If…

I saw a prompt earlier today online. If you could go back in time and give your child self advice, what would it be? I found this interesting, as I had already written my previous post (New Year, Old Me) and it seemed to relate directly to my thought process.

Yes, my 2013 was full of scary change and bad times, but they were necessary changes and short lived times. I know that if I could go back in time to a younger me, there would be many things I could warn myself about our shared life. “Don’t go to this party. Don’t become friends with this person. Don’t trust this person. Don’t do this. Do this. Avoid that.” And so on and so on and so on. I could save myself a lot of trouble, mistakes, and pain that way.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I would have also missed out on a lot of good times and good things that came with the bad. I would completely change my perspective and outlook on life by ridding myself of experiences, no matter how crappy they were as I was going through them. And undoubtedly, I would not be the person I am or have the things I have now without having to go through everything I have. Even worse, I wouldn’t have the ability to appreciate the things I have and am without having the worse scenarios to compare it to.

So, no. If I had the option to go back in time and warn myself, I wouldn’t do it. And if I did go back in time to give myself advice, that advice would only be to go for it. Go for everything whole heartedly and don’t question for a second that things will eventually work out in my favor. Yes, I am still struggling in certain areas of my life, but my life is mine and it is full of good things and good people and I couldn’t ask for anything more.

  2. Hi again, it’s been awhile since I’ve visited your blog. I’ve been very busy with school stuff.

Yeah, I definitely agree. The hard times shape all of us as much as the good times. I also believe it’s important to remember the trials in life help us grow stronger by learning from mistakes, acquiring better coping techniques, and discovering ways to fight future trials of the same likeness.

    • Absolutely. I feel like I have such a good idea of who I am today and I have all those experiences, good and bad, to attribute that to. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment!
