February Blog Challenge – Days 18-28

In Challenges, February 2013 on March 4, 2013 at 11:14 pm

I know, I know.  It isn’t even February anymore.  However, I have legitimate reasons for being so far behind.  I am a great daughter and have been caring for my mother while she recovered from surgery.  Granted, that’s just since the end of last week, and before that I have no excuse.  Anyways, I’m going to do my best to just finish a damn month here.  🙂

February Blog Challenge – Days 6-17

In Challenges, February 2013 on February 17, 2013 at 5:20 pm

Day 6: 10 people I’d have dinner with and the menu

This ones impossible for me, for some reason.  I would say Shakespeare (because I love his writing), Johnny Depp (because he’s nice to look at and seems very interesting in interviews), my grandmother (because she loves special times like a surprise dinner or just getting to hang out and chat with her family), Marilyn Monroe (because I absolutely adore her and she seemed to be very good with conversation, plus I’m sure she had a ridiculous amount of secrets she could share), mu uncle (just because), and the assassinated Kennedy brothers (to see how they feel about our country these days).  I would love to have dinner with someone that lived through the Holocaust.  That’s been something that has interested and astounded me since I did a research paper on it in middle school.  I know that’s only 8, but I really can’t think of anything else original or worthwhile right now.  I would say the menu could be just about any recipe of my grandmother’s because she’s an awesome cook.

February Blog Challenge – 5: Clothing Style

Day 5: Name one brand of clothing that best describes your style.

I’ve never really been into the whole “brands” thing. I actually purposefully never bought the popular brands throughout high school because I couldn’t stand the ranking of people based on how much money they spent on their clothes that, let’s face it, often didn’t fit them right or were not really attractive to begin with. Having said that, I love different styles and I am able to flow between them from day-to-day, depending on my mood.  I love the vintage / retro style of pencil skirts with victory rolls in my hair. I love leggings with long shirts and boots. I love the boho chic style of long skirts, layers, and multiple accessories. I love the girly style of belted dresses with wedges. I love skinny jeans and either dressing them up with heels, going more casual with boots, or dressing way down with a band T and sneakers.  I don’t think I really have a specific “style.”  I just wear whatever I like that day.  What can I say; I’m eclectic in all aspects of life, I suppose.

This is why I love Forever 21. This store has a little bit of everything. Physically in the store, the different styles are sectioned off into separate “rooms” so it’s easy to navigate which area to go, depending on if you are looking for a leather jacket or a knit sweater with cats all over it. The clothes aren’t runway quality, but they are made well for the price you pay. They also have great jewelry for cheap and some pretty good sales. It’s also easy for me to put together outfits that don’t look too young, but also don’t make me look like I just drove from soccer practice in my mini-van – nothing against mini-van moms.  I just don’t want to dress like one until I am one.

February Blog Challenge – 3: Dream House

In Challenges, February 2013 on February 3, 2013 at 3:41 pm

Easy.  No questions asked, hands down, for all my life.  More than anything, I want to live in a big, 2 story Victorian on a cozy little side street downtown, complete with a full attic and stained glass windows around the stairwell.  I’ve seen a lot of these houses in my travels through small towns for work.  Lexington has plenty of super gorgeous ones, but so far my favorite has been Main Street in Georgetown, KY.  It is house after house after house that are obviously decades upon decades old, but have been well cared for and they are amazing.  I would want mine to be a green color, with dark burgundy trim and shutters.  A little round window in the attic, and bay window on the first floor, and a nice sized porch stretching across the front of the house.  I would love a nice den with a fireplace behind pocket doors, and large dining room with another fireplace, and a fireplace in the master bedroom.  As you can see, I’ve put a lot of thought into this throughout my life time 🙂

How can you not just love these houses?

February Blog Challenge – 1: Self Portrait

In Challenges, February 2013 on February 1, 2013 at 11:51 pm

So I have been looking at other people’s blog challenges of daily posts a lot lately.  I am really interested in doing that myself for a full month, but it’s almost impossible for me to post aside from on weekends because my work days can be so demanding and long throughout the week.  If the prompts are simple and if I lump together multiple days, since it’s inevitable that I will miss some and have to play catch up, I think I could manage it.  Then I saw a February challenge, courtesy of Jessica, and decided to try it because these seem like they would be easy for me to bust out pretty quickly.

So the first one is a self portrait, and -lucky me- I just got a new one.  I have an obsession with taking picture on my iphone and then using free editing apps to make the pictures look vintage, old, or just weird.  By obession, I mean I can not post a picture taken with my iphone on any social media without running it through some filters first 🙂

Anyways, here is my most recent self portrait, taken a week ago today.
