We’re growing! Now let’s get real, part 6

In Opinion/Personal, Personal on January 6, 2019 at 8:15 pm

Part 1: Morning Sickness

Part 2: Cravings & Aversions

Part 3: Digestion

Part 4: Body Talk

Part 5: Second Puberty

I am an educated woman. I completed a four year degree at a well recognized (while still affordable) university in my area. I’ve honed my skills in my career to continue growing, proving myself, and climbing the ranks at a stable and comfortable pace. I am well read and was raised to be self sufficient. I was taught common sense and problem solving skills from as early as I can remember.

Guess what? None of that matters. Quite early on, and sporadically throughout the pregnancy, all reason goes right out the window.

Welcome to the world of Irrational Fears!

So far, starting around week 6 and occurring randomly ever since, I’ve had he following thoughts:

  • Don’t cough too hard, you might knock it loose.
  • Don’t use your ab muscles very often, you might squeeze it loose.
What if those aren’t ligament pains and are actually your uterus detaching inside your body?
What if that wasn’t a kick of the baby rolling over, but a sign something is wrong?

Those are only the main ones I can easily recall, there have been many other brief thoughts and worries. I have googled myself to death looking up every symptom, feeling, and sensation.

Silver lining: I think a touch of paranoia is normal. I’ve learned so much from googling even the most random things – I’ve learned details about the changes to a woman’s body and the development of the baby that no health book ever included. I’ve learned a lot of different scenarios, which can definitely be scary but also helps me feel more prepared in case any of those scenarios occur with me. Also, I am aware that my underlying daily anxiety is definitely playing a role. While concerns are normal, not everyone will experience the level of concern I sometimes do, but my being aware of that affect is enough for me to talk myself through any freak outs.

February Blog Challenge – Days 6-17

In Challenges, February 2013 on February 17, 2013 at 5:20 pm

Day 6: 10 people I’d have dinner with and the menu

This ones impossible for me, for some reason.  I would say Shakespeare (because I love his writing), Johnny Depp (because he’s nice to look at and seems very interesting in interviews), my grandmother (because she loves special times like a surprise dinner or just getting to hang out and chat with her family), Marilyn Monroe (because I absolutely adore her and she seemed to be very good with conversation, plus I’m sure she had a ridiculous amount of secrets she could share), mu uncle (just because), and the assassinated Kennedy brothers (to see how they feel about our country these days).  I would love to have dinner with someone that lived through the Holocaust.  That’s been something that has interested and astounded me since I did a research paper on it in middle school.  I know that’s only 8, but I really can’t think of anything else original or worthwhile right now.  I would say the menu could be just about any recipe of my grandmother’s because she’s an awesome cook.

Stop Copying Me!

In Random on February 5, 2013 at 11:24 pm

Maybe the most popular sibling phrase aside from “Stop touching me” and “I’m not touching you.”  Annoying – yes.  Illegal – no.  Immoral – maybe.  But what if you’re not a kid anymore?  And what if the copying isn’t your actions or expressions, but your hard work?  Your blood, sweat, and tears, just stolen right out from under you…

So in case everyone hasn’t noticed, I can sometimes obsess.  I am a worry wart and once I get an idea, it can sometimes take over my entire life for a span of time.  This is why I’m lightweight freaking out right now about the safety of my blog.  That’s right, folks: I’m talking about plagiarism.

In all seriousness now, I really am having a moment of panic.  I was looking through some other blogs today and saw that one blogger had a Copyright statement in their sidebar.  Before seeing this, I though my simple “Copyright © 2012/13” at the bottom of my original pieces was just fine.  But after seeing this I thought, “Hmm.  Maybe I should make one of those statements, too.”  I decided it couldn’t hurt to add on to my footers.  By this point, however, I couldn’t remember the blog that I’d seen it on.  I decided to Google it and try to find a general copyright statement to put on my blog.  That’s when all hell broke loose…

Weekly Challenge: Mind The Gap, Ebooks or Paperback?

In Challenges, Opinion, Opinion/Personal on February 4, 2013 at 2:08 pm

Maybe I’m overdoing things, but in addition to my regular posts about randomness and my participation in the February daily challenge, I have also decided to try to participate in the challenges posted by The Daily Post.  This week, they set up a poll to vote on your preference between ebooks and paperbacks.  I voted and was so glad with the results it showed me afterwards.  It seems most people still prefer paperbacks.

The world is losing so many things to the growth of technology.  Don’t get me wrong – I’d die without the convenience of my smart phone with Google constantly right at my fingertips.  But, especially in this case, I would also die without that touch of old school.  There is nothing better than the crack of opening a new book, except for maybe opening an old book that has that smell.  You know the one I’m talking about.  It’s the smell of history on its pages, of the many people who got lost in the pages the same as you are about to, the smell of the shelves it’s been sharing with other books of its time.

Topless Isn’t So Bad Sometimes

In Opinion/Personal on September 14, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Before I actually get into the meat of this post, I first want to remind anyone reading this that you are on my blog, which I use to discuss things I believe or am interested in.  I am fully expecting most people to disagree with me, and I am fully anticipating negativity from this.  But I also feel a great importance in giving my stance on this matter and standing by it.  I’ll also start by giving a quick run-down of why this seems important to me right now.  It’s an issue that has been debated for a pretty long time, at this point, and I’ve never had an interest in voicing my opinion on it before.  That was my own stupidity, my own self-centeredness.  Before, I couldn’t really see how I was directly effected by this, so I brushed it off.  Not much has changed – I am still not directly effected by this, but it is affecting plenty others right in front of me.  A recent experience I just so happened to walk upon allowed me to see this controversy in an all new form of clarity.
