The Wedding Games

In Opinion/Personal, Personal, Random on February 16, 2015 at 6:25 pm

Announcing an engagement is always a big deal.  Some people throw a party.  Some people immediately get professional pictures done.  Some people change their relationship status on social media.  Fiance and I updated our Facebook, made phone calls to those we wouldn’t be seeing soon, sent texts to our closest friends, and showed the ring off to our families.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when we announced our news.  First of all, we had only been dating a year and a half.  To some people, that would be a quick relationship progression.  However, for us, it just makes sense.  Fiance and I have been on the same page from the very beginning.  After our first date, we both knew there were going to be many more.  It was comfortable and felt safe and we made each other happy.  After a few months, we both knew that dates on weekends wasn’t enough and decided to move in together.  It felt right.  After a few more months, idle chatter started about positions on marriage and children and all the things you start to talk about when you find the person you can’t see spending a day without.  Maybe to others it could appear to be a rash decision made quickly and without thought, as our whole relationships could be viewed I suppose, but what they say is true: when you know, you know.  And in my opinion, this has to be the closest thing to fairytale love-at-first-sight that there ever was.  The real elephant in the room is that fact that I’ve been down this road before.  I’ve been engaged.  I had a wedding.  I was in a marriage.  And the point of that story is that it failed.

On memories, beginnings, lonliness, and no plans: This is not the end.

In Opinion/Personal, Personal, Random on April 2, 2013 at 4:23 pm

I need to be painfully honest.  Not with someone else – with myself.  I’ve tried to avoid it, because even though I already know what I need to say to myself I know it is still going to feel different once it is said.  I’ve sat down handfuls of times in an attempt to write.  To write a post, to write on a story already started, to write literally anything, and I ended up staring at my computer screen for endless minutes before getting frustrated and closing it all out.  I know it’s because my head is clouded with all these unspoken things, these things that I’ve been trying desperately to un-think.  But the truth is, these things are there.  Whether I allow myself to think about it, whether I fight in an attempt to not have to face the facts, they are there and they always will be.  So here I sit, pecking away at my keyboard because I know I need to man up and do it already.

The Wisdom of Fictional Characters: Bones Got Me…

In Uncategorized on February 2, 2013 at 1:40 pm

I have a television obsession.  I DVR so many shows it should be illegal.  And even if it were illegal, I’d still do it.  One my shows is Bones.  I love it.  I love the crime and mystery aspect of it, but I also love the quirky characters.  The last episode was called “The Twist in the Plot” and focused on a two bodies found in the same shallow grave, one that was supposed to be there as part of her burial plans and one that was not even supposed to be dead.  If anyone watches this show, then you will be familiar with Dr. Sweets, the psych guy, and his now ex-girlfriend Daisy, who was an intern in the lab for a while.  Sweets and Daisy were perfect for each other, but Sweets got cold feet when they were planning to move in together and broke up with her.  This episode was Daisy’s return to the lab after the break-up.  In addition, during this episode, Bones and Booth discussed their own wills and plans for burials, etc.  If you watch the show and haven’t seen this episode, do not read below this line, as it will discuss details of the show.
