Conversations With My Boyfriend

In Funny, Opinion/Personal, Personal, Random on December 2, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Children say the darnedest things…

Anyone who is a parent or has small children in their family can attest to this.  Bill Cosby did a whole show dedicated to it.  There’s a very entertaining Twitter feed that has been turned into a book called Preschool Gems full of nothing but the out-loud thoughts of young children.  Even my Facebook news feed is full of status updates from parents recapping hilarious scenarios and conversations with their children of either funny things their kids say or things they have to say to their kids that they would’ve never imagined they would be saying.  I enjoy reading these and made a mental note long ago that, should I become a mother one day, I would keep a running log of all the cute, funny, and often times quite wise musings that I will inevitably bear witness to.

But then I realized I didn’t have to wait.  I have been blessed with the companionship of a very high energy and entertaining person.  While he is 30 years old, he is very youthful in both appearance and demeanor.  His sense of humor is larger than he is himself and with his Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, it is not uncommon to end up in very strange, confusing, and random conversations.  Give him a couple beers, and that scale is multiplied.  I know what you’re probably thinking.  That doesn’t sound like fun.  Where is this going?  What in the hell does this have to do with Bill Cosby or children?

Social Overload

In Opinion/Personal, Personal, Random on September 19, 2013 at 1:18 pm

All these new-fangled social gadgets have got me reeling.

So maybe they aren’t very new.  Maybe it’s very likely that I’m just waaaaaay behind times.

Anyways, I figured I needed to broaden my scope of advertising for my blog to reach as many people as I could.  I figured that being able to contact others through various forms and allow others to contact me would be beneficial to having my writings seen, and also force me to be a more social person (which is something I’ve been working on somewhat diligently so far in 2013).

So, here are the social platforms I am currently attempting to figure out how to use:

Feel free to check these out, hit me up, or possibly give me some pointers on how to actually use most of them 🙂

February Blog Challenge – Days 18-28

In Challenges, February 2013 on March 4, 2013 at 11:14 pm

I know, I know.  It isn’t even February anymore.  However, I have legitimate reasons for being so far behind.  I am a great daughter and have been caring for my mother while she recovered from surgery.  Granted, that’s just since the end of last week, and before that I have no excuse.  Anyways, I’m going to do my best to just finish a damn month here.  🙂

Pinterest Me compared to Real Me

In Random on February 25, 2013 at 6:51 pm

There is no person alive in the world today that doesn’t know about Pinterest.  It’s just not possible.  There are few that know of its existance but choose not to participate.  I was one of them for a short time.  But then I gave in.  I couldn’t help it.  I got sucked in and immediately became one of those mindless Pinteresters, aimlessly scrolling through pins, repinning like mad. Then, as everyone else did or will do at some point, I realized that this was just a fantasy world.  I didn’t have time to somehow hand craft a string of lantern lights out of toilet paper, and if I did I didn’t have anywhere to use them.  But they looked cool, so whatever, right?  I decided to go through my Pinterest boards and see how much of this was actually something I would do or if I was just fooling myself.  Then I decided to share it with all of you, because why not?  I’ve broken it down into different categories: Read the rest of this entry »

A Complete & Utter Loss For Words…

In Personal, Random on February 6, 2013 at 8:47 pm

This ^ is where I’m at right now.  And  those of you that have followed my blog for a bit could probably attest to the fact that this is not normal…

Big news in my world is that I randomly and unexpectedly received a notification on my phone today that I had been mentioned in a Tweet by Freshly Pressed for a recent post I had done.  I thought to myself “That’s strange.  Freshly Pressed is big news for WordPress.  But this is Twitter…”  So I load up my Twitter, expecting it to be something random (since the only Tweets I get mentioned in are the fake accounts promoting porn), but I find that it is, indeed, Freshly Pressed.  I’m still thinking, “Okay, okay.  But it’s not the Freshly Pressed.  There’s no way.”  I expand the Tweet to see that it’s already been retweeted twice.  I figure I should probably promote myself a bit, even if it is a mistake, so I retweet it, too.

Then I open my WordPress app.  Mind you, the WordPress app is insanely finicky and often just crashes.  It’s nearly impossible to do anything aside from using the reader on it, but it does send notifications if someone comments on one your posts, but checking notifications and replying to comments more or less turns into a fiasco for me every time.  For any of you that see a comment or a reply with a typo in it, it’s because of my blasted phone and its horrible attempt at autocorrect and it makes me want to scream.  So generally I tend to only use the phone app to read other blog posts.  I tap on the FP icon and it loads up the page – with my little letter right at the top – and I almost immediately begin getting comment notifications.

Nugget #42: Facebook is a Pool of Facepalms

IMG_2894Gotta love the typos and drama…

This is oddly reminiscent of a certain Youtube personality, Miranda.  I also follow her on Twitter, and all of her posts are of this quality.  The difference is that her’s is done purposefully…

So I’m Basically Twitter Famous Now

In Opinion/Personal, Personal, Random on January 14, 2013 at 11:12 pm

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...

Ok, maybe I’m  not really Twitter famous.  Maybe I’m not even close.  My follower count hasn’t even broke 100 yet.  I say yet because in the last 24 hours alone I’ve gained 8 new followers, so it’s only a matter of time (more than likely years) to get over 100.  I’m not really bothered by this.  Just like in my real life, I never liked being surrounded by fake friends.  I’ve always prefered to have a handful of true friends over two handfuls of acquaintances, so I treat my Twitter feed the same.  I follow people that have interesting things to talk about or that I find entertaining, and I assume people follow me for the same reason.  If I’m not entertained, I don’t follow back – sorry.  I can’t stand the people who follow to get followers, then unfollow them.  If you do that, get over yourself. The end.

Now back to me: I may not have thousands of followers or get retweets in multiples of 10’s like some of these Twitter celebrities do, or like the real celebrities do.  But today I got a couple Twitter notifications that damn near made me pee on myself and made me feel like I would have to kick myself if I didn’t brag about it for just a minute.

Recommending: T-Rex Trying

In Funny, Opinion, Opinion/Personal, Personal, Recommendations on November 22, 2012 at 2:11 pm

I’m sure everyone has seen at least one of these drawings at this point: bulky, oddly shaped T-Rex pitifully trying to perform everyday activities that his stubby little arms prevent him from actually doing.  I stumbled across this on Pinterest several months ago when I found an image created by someone who had around 10 of these T-Rex Trying pictures all together, showing T-Rex trying to paint his house or make a snow angel or play a guitar, and they were absolutely hilarious.  I didn’t know at the time that this was a whole series of unfortunate attempts of T-Rex until I somehow stumbled across it again.  Only this time, and lucky for you folks reading, I found the Tumblr of T-Rex Trying, which is basically the motherload from the actual source.  The source, by the way, I discovered was a guy named Hugh Murphy, or as I will refer to him: The Dinosaur Comedic Genius.  This Tumblr is pages upon pages of funnies like these:

The Tumblr page also leads to the Twitter account, @TRexTrying.  Yes, I automatically followed.  I suggest everyone else do that same.  These quick little snippets of humor are exactly what get me through the day, so keep up the entertaining work Mr. Hugh Dinsosaur Comedic Genius Murphy.

How Do You Vote?

In Opinion, Opinion/Personal on November 6, 2012 at 7:03 pm

Ok, I don’t mean literally how does a person physically walk into a location and vote.  What I mean is: what influences your vote?  For me, there are different factors, as I suspect there are with most people.  I don’t vote for a candidate based on their party.  I think it’s important to look at their past.  Do I agree with decisions they’ve made in their political careers prior to being in the possibly presidential spotlight?  I think that’s even more important than the statements they make once they are in the spotlight because then it all boils down to wanting votes.  Any and every candidate will say what they think they need to say to get the votes of their party, whether they actually believe that or actually intend to follow through on it if they do win.

I also am very aware of what my main concerns are during the time of an election, so I obviously tend to focus on the candidates’ views on those same issues.  I imagine that most educated, responsible people exercising their right to vote have a similar practice to determine how they feel about candidates.  I tend to avoid political conversations, but I am honest when I find myself in the middle of one.  I state my point of view, give at least one reason why this is my point of view, don’t make assumptions based on non-facts, and keep it cordial no matter what my opinion is on the issue or the candidate.  Because I am aware of how to present myself as knowledgable, educated, and responsible.  Never fear – there is always at least one person to remind you that not everyone is in tune with this presumable quality of common sense.  For example, a random person retweeting another person that ended up on my Twitter feed regarding the election.  The first Tweet stated: “Hi @MittRomney just another reminder you look like a cabbage and you’re not going to win…” and the second was: “Hi @MittRomney don’t forget to #voteobama you twat.”
